I’ve been practicing, practicing, practicing the past few weeks (hence my videoke machine raids) for my first ever performance as a wedding singer. A duet, thank goodness, else I’d have refused point blank when they asked me several months ago. I actually wanted to back out, largely because I had an understandably dim view of romance back in July. But sisterly love, utang na loob, and the sheer joy of witnessing my ate’s love story overcame my hesitation. Although my wedding was still an abstract concept, I thought I could give justice to the lyrics based on the promise God gave me.
Then the promise came true six weeks ago.
So very soon, I’ll sing I’ll Cherish the Treasure with the combined inspiration of their love story…
… and ours.
I cherish the treasure
The treasure of you
Lifelong companion
I give myself to you
God has enabled me
To walk with you faithfully
And cherish the treasure
The treasure of you
As I obey the Spirit’s voice
And seek to do His will
I then can see the wisdom of His plan
For as He works His will in me
I then can love you selflessly
And by His grace, can pledge my love to you
Chorus
This sacred vow I make to you
Does not contain an “if”
Though I’m aware that trials lie ahead
I will love you and pray with you
And through it all, I will stay with you
Our home will be a refuge of
Unconditional love
Chorus
Cherish the treasure
The treasure of you
