I never claimed to be a writer

in my affair with words,

reading always had

first claim to my affections.

hours consumed

in pages and links

devoured with intent glee.

writing is akin to birthing

then and now;

this-is-not-good-enough lingers

at the end of each piece.

writing seems to have grown on me

in the overflow of heart and mind

ideas and feelings demand expression.

so i'm learning

to step out from

from those long dead and gone.

for what i have to say has value

i find my voice

and rediscover my self.

so tonight, and every night

i write.
